MOM AND DAD REUNITED
TOGETHER AGAIN
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Vera Hordy at the age of 88 years, on Monday, September 11, 2017.
Mom was born on February 7, 1929 to Frank and Rose Scavarelli. She grew up in the East End and attended St. Peter’s School. She worked in the dry cleaning industry where she met and married the love of her life Joe. They had nearly 65 years together before he passed away in November 2012.
Vera is survived by daughters Sharon (Earl) Wintermute, Linda (Jack – deceased) Darson, and son Rick Hordy; grandchildren Clayton (Cathy) McKibbon, Joseph McKibbon, Scott (Jennifer) Hordy, Aaron (Chelsea) Hordy, Derek (Tammy) Darson; great grandchildren Andrew and Chelsie McKibbon, Shailyn (Tristan) and Carlee McKibbon, Gage and Presley Hordy, Reilah (Smiley) and Avaiya Hordy, Devyn Darson, Danisha and Laurisa Lennstrom; great great granddaughter Khloe McKibbon; as well as her furry granddaughters Chica and Pebbles. She is also survived by sisters Rosalie and Louisa, brothers Frank, Jim (Honey), Jack (Nives) and Roy (Pat), many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, parents, granddaughter Carrie-Ann McKibbon (February, 2017), brothers Nels and Peter, and sister Sarah.
We would like to thank the staff at the TBRHSC and Pinewood Court for their support during moms stay there.
Funeral Services for Vera will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi, C.S. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior, at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vera’s memory to a charity of choice.
