Vera Spellman, born in Tredger, South Wales on April 22, 1943 passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2015 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Vera left home at 16 and moved to Yorkshire, England where she met and married her husband Terry in 1963. She worked as a seamstress, librarian and factory worker until she emigrated to Canada with her family in 1976. She worked numerous jobs in Thunder Bay until starting a janitorial service with her sister Maud. They operated Morgan Janitorial for over 20 years making many good friends along the way.
She always said moving to Canada was the best thing she ever did for her family. She was a determined woman who went after what she wanted and wasn’t afraid of hard work. She was always there for her friends and family and could be counted on to tell you the honest truth, whether you liked it or not.
She was very proud of her daughter Maria and son-in-law Tony. Her granddaughter Madison was the light of her life and never failed to bring a smile to her face.
Vera and her feistiness will be deeply missed by her husband of 52 years Terry, daughter Maria (Tony), granddaughter Madison, niece Leslie (Myles, Beth, Adam), nephew Shane (Cindy, Jarod) and numerous nieces and nephews in Wales and England.
Vera was predeceased by all of her siblings, brothers Trevor, Karl, William, Trehan and sisters Iris (Jan. 2015) and Maud (Mar. 2015).
Thank you to all of the Nurses on 3A at TBRHSC, especially Hillary. Your care and compassion made a difficult time easier to bear.
A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 in the Harbourview Visitation Room, 499 North Cumberland Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund.
