Mrs. Vieno Maria Lemmitty (nee Tuomela) Tonts age 93 years passed away in her sleep on Monday, February 6, 2017 with her daughter Marian by her side.
Vieno was born on August 17, 1923 in Mervijarvi, Finland. In 1950 after her mother's passing, Vieno left Finland and came to Canada. Her uncle Matti Tuomela financed her trip. She arrived in Peggy's Cove, Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 6, 1950 penniless. Matti wired her some money so she could make the trip to Port Arthur. Vieno worked in many bush camps before gettying her steady job at Kivela Bakery. On a blind date, she met her soulmate Julius. Julius spoke Estonian and Vieno spoke Finnish, at the beginning they didn't understand each other. On April 19, 1955 they were married in a bilingual service and enjoyed 47 blissful years together. On June 18, 1961 (Father's Day) a miracle came, and their daughter Marian was born.
Vieno loved to bake and everyone loved her baking. She started to bake at the early age of 3. Vieno truly loved animals and shared her passion with her daughter Marian. She just loved KIISU. After KIISU's passing, she said NO MORE CATS, but on September 7, 2016, MIISU came into our lives.
Vieno is survived by her daughter Marian and MIISU.
She was predeceased by her husband Julius in 2002, her uncle Matti in 1997 and KIISU in 2012.
