Mrs. Violet DeLong (nee Lavender), age 90 years, passed away peacefully in Hogarth-Riverview Manor with her loving family by her side on Thursday, April 16, 2015.

Violet was born on August 15, 1924 in Fort William to James and Eva Lavender. She dedicated her life, along with her husband Glen, to raising their family in Slate River and was a foster mother to several newborn babies.

Violet's passion was her family and friends. She enjoyed choir and music, poetry and amateur photography. She was a member of Pinegrove United Church and was involved with the UCW for many years. Violet loved the time spent with he friends, Mary Germain, Kitty Mayer and Peggy Stewardson. She also enjoyed her job at Municipal Golf Course, where she worked for several seasons.

Violet is survived by her children Terry DeLong (Nancy), Brook Kell (Blaine) and Jim DeLong (Karen); grandchildren Stephanie, Ryan, Dana, Trevor, Aaron, Shane, Adam, Tina and Ronnie as well as 9 great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Lily Buttman (Larry) and brother Ernie Lavender (Helen) and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Glen in 2007; dear daughter-in-law Corinne DeLong in 2003; precious siblings Jim Lavender (Pat), Harry Lavender (Millie), Eva Forbes (Bob) and many close relatives from the DeLong family.

The family would like to thank the excellent staff of Hogarth Riverview Manor for their exceptional care of Mom during her time there.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Violet DeLong will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore St. at James with Rev. Randy Boyd officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Mountainview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Violet to Hogarth Riverview Manor, the Alzheimer Society, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
