Mr. Vittorio “Vic” Pagura, age 89 years, a resident of Shuniah, passed away peacefully in hospital, on Tuesday April 4th, 2017 with family by his side.
Vic was born and raised in Castions Zoppola, Italy and came to Canada at the age of 29 in 1957, after working as a miner in Belgium. He arrived in Canada and worked as a skidder operator for American Can and then finished his career as a Foreman, for Buchanan Forest Products in Caramat. After retirement, Vic and his wife Claire, moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario, to enjoy their retirement.
Vic was an avid angler and hunter his entire life. He loved being at the hunting camp with his friends and family and fishing in his secret fishing spots. Vic was also passionate about gardening. After his retirement he built a beautiful home in the country and adorned it with multiple lush veggie gardens and was proud of his many apple, plum and pin cherry trees. He loved bringing his grandchildren and great grandchildren to pick through the bounty. He also loved to make wine. He was proud of his vino and enjoyed watching people drink it. Vic was also a proud member of the DaVinci Club.
Vic had the biggest heart and most welcoming smile. He enjoyed nothing more than breaking bread with his many friends and family. Anytime you visited him, there was salami, cheese, bread and vino waiting for you.
Vittorio will be sadly missed by his loving daughter Christine (Remi), his son-in-law John (predeceased daughter Ellena), grandchildren, Brian (Tammy), Stephanie (Duane), Melissa (Dennis), Michelle (Daniel), and his great grandchildren Kyle and Cai, Ariel and Eric, and Connor and Max. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Vittorio was predeceased by his wife Claire, his daughter Ellena, parents Marianna and Ernesto, and his six brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre to Corpus Christi Church, 664 Red River Road, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Victor DeGagne beginning at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, where the Prayer Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Vic’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
