Mrs. Vivian Tanner, age 90 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2019 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospice Unit.

Vivian was born on July 29, 1928 in Fort William, Ontario. She was the eldest daughter born to Beatrice and Pierre Allen. As a young woman she worked as a waitress, a nurse’s aide and at Eaton’s.

Mom married George Tanner on August 28, 1948. Together they raised their three children. She was a loving, caring mother who always put her family first. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her interests included gardening, bowling, knitting, bingo, watching television and chatting with friends and family on the phone. Vivian had a kind heart and showed concern and compassion for the less fortunate people of society.

Vivian will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, George; son Gary (Carrie); daughters Deborah-Lee (Raphael) and Jamie; sister Betty Ilkew (Peter); sister-in-law Millie Allen; brother-in-law James Tanner; special childhood friend Helen Fikis; and many nieces and nephews.

Vivian was predeceased by her parents Beatrice and Pierre Allen; brothers Laverne (Bernice) Allen and Andre Allen; sisters Florence (Hans) Olsen and Irene (Walter) Sohlman.

A celebration of Vivian’s life will take place on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Rev. Luigi Filippini of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service time. Interment to follow the service in St. Andrew’s R.C. Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Vivian’s memory to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay-Hospice Unit, Northern Cancer Fund or St. Andrew’s Dew Drop Inn.
