Vivian Whiting (Griffiths)
It is with extreme sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our amazing mom, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend after a courageous battle with cancer. Vivian went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus on August 9th with her daughter Leanne, her son-in-law Johnny and special niece Bunny by her side.

Vivian was born in Kenora and spent most of her life there, a place she truly loved.  Mom had a heart of gold, she loved her family and spending time with them, and that extended to her nieces and nephews, her friend's children and friends of her children. She welcomed them all into her heart and home. Many have said that Vivian was a second "Mom" to them. Mom had various jobs through her life but she will be remembered by many for her care working with youths at S.T.E.P. and later for caring for special people with disabilities who she held dear to her heart. So many will remember her for love and kindness. Mom enjoyed hunting with Dad in early years and we sure heard some great stories about that! But she loved fishing even more with her family and we have many great memories of her yelling "Here fishy fishy"! Mom also loved gardening and we all got to reap the rewards of her canning abilities. There was nothing like a Jar of her canned treats on the table at meal times. She was a wonderful cook and baker and loved having everyone over for her delicious meals. Mom also got into crafts and was self taught and made the most beautiful flower arrangements, wreaths and wedding bouquets for people she loved. Vivian attended Water of Life Family Church for many years and was baptized in 2002. It is here that she made many lifelong friends who will truly miss her.

Vivian will join in eternity with her son Frankie Alcock and her lifelong soulmate William Alcock Sr. She is also predeceased by her parents Mildred and Arthur Griffiths, her brothers Arthur "Buck", Allen "Pete", Albert "Bill",  her sisters Martha "Toots", Edith "Dolly" as well as by her special nephews, aunts and uncles, close friends and other relatives and by her pets, especially Mitzi.

Vivian leaves to mourn her children who she loved so dearly, Bill Alcock Jr (Elaine), Arthur Alcock (Tanya), Leanne Alcock-Jackson (Johnny) and grandson Christopher (Chante). She is also survived by her sister Dorothy "Sally”, her sister-in-law Joan Griffiths and their families, Lindsay and Chad Michaniuk and children as well as her many nieces, nephews, friends and her special caregivers, Linda, Mary, Jeanine and Jade who she held close to her heart.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 11:30am at the Water of Life Church, 924 11th Ave. North, Kenora, ON, P9N 3KA with Pastor Dave McDonald officiating.  Luncheon to follow. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to the Water of Life Church, The Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.

I Made it Home

I just wanted to let you know that I made it home.
Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh, so new.
I wish that you could close your eyes
so that you could see it too.
Please try not to be sad for me.
Try to understand.
God is taking care of me.....
I'm in the shelter of his hands.
Here there is no sadness, and no sorrow, and no pain.
Here there is no crying, and I'll never hurt again.
Here it is so peaceful, when all the Angels sing.
I really have to go for now.....
I've just got to try my wings.
PS...I'll be the first face you see when you get here!
