Mr. Walter Joseph Weston Aysanabee Sr., age 81 years, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2023, lovingly surrounded by family at Bethammi Care Home.

Walter was born on January 30, 1942 in Sandy Lake, Ontario. He lived in The Pas, Manitoba and worked for MTS for most of his adult life. He later resided in Thunder Bay, Ontario to be closer to his grandchildren. He was active throughout his life, was adventurous, and had a strong love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, archery, berry picking, camping, going for walks and taking road trips with his family. He was resourceful and spent much of his time working with his hands. He had many creative passions and hobbies including working with wood, leather, sewing, and was always learning new skills and exploring new interests. He had a strong faith, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and later in life became a Deacon. He met his wife Diane at a young age and they were happily married for 44 years until she passed. He was a devoted family man who lovingly raised and cared for his 5 children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter had many cherished friendships and people in his life that looked up to him. He will be remembered by his family as a gentle yet strong, kind-hearted presence who could always make you laugh. He was always there. A light that offered guidance, love, and support - sincerely, generously, and unconditionally.

Walter will be deeply missed by daughters Therese Aysanabee-Pang and Patricia Aysanabee (Josh); his grandchildren Brian Aysanabee (Brette), Julia Mamakeesic, Karmen Pang, Jordan Mamakeesic (Larissa), Evan Pang, Miranda Aysanabee-Pereira (Joshua), Leslie-Ann Aysanabee, Brayden Wilson, and Brandi Wilson; great grandchildren Storm, Maaheegan, Brooklyn, Colton, Joshua, Kiara, Elijah, Elianna, Ozwyn, and Braxton; his sister Janet Meekis (Bart) and brother Kelly Anishinabie (Debbie) and many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Diane Aysanabee, daughters Mary Ann Aysanabee, Barbara Mawakeesick, and son Walter (Wally) Jr.; granddaughter Emily; father Seeseepano and mother Chenza Anishinabie; siblings Noah, Ben, Sam, Edna, and Hilda.

The family of Walter would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and health care aides of the second floor at Bethammi Care Home, P.R. Cook, and the Renal Unit at TBRHSC. The family would also like to thank the community of Kitchitwa Kateri Church and also Harbourview Funeral Centre for their compassionate guidance.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Rev. Mr. Michael Robinson. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will follow on Monday, May 15th at 12:30 pm CST, in Ear Falls Cemetery where Walter will be laid to rest beside his wife, Diane.
