It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Walter Chornobay, age 92, of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with his beloved son by his side.

Walter was born in Fort William on June 10, 1930 and lived his whole life in Westfort. He left school at age 16 and began working for Canadian Pacific Rail, where he remained for his entire working career; retiring after 38 years at the age of 54.

In 1949, he met and married his loving wife, June Everett. They spent 67 wonderful years together until June’s passing in 2016.

In his younger years, Walter enjoyed playing football and baseball for the Ukes. He also bowled and played golf for many years. After his retirement, his number one priority was taking care of his yard and garden. There was never a single weed to be seen on his lawn or in his lavish flower beds.

Walter is survived by his son David (Linda) Chornobay, sisters Elsie Topp and Rose Gilmore, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Dora, step-father John Buzmetko, brother Morris, and brother-in-law Donald Topp.

Thank you to Dr. Magnatal for her outstanding care and compassion towards dad. Thanks also for friends Bonnie and Claude, Val and Randy, Ron, The Hereemas, and The Gordon’s.

As per Walter’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Walter’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street at James.
