Mr. Walter Coskie, age 96 years passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Friday January 13, 2017 with his loving family at his side.

Walter was born on March 6, 1920 in Fort William, the youngest of 3 brothers and 2 sisters. They resided in the East End. Walter served in the Canadian Army from 1941 to 1946 in England.

He initially entered service as a Private and then made Medical Sergeant (infantry medical). He returned to Canada to Fort William where he met the love of his life, Bernice Slonowsky. They were married on July 19, 1947.

Two children were the result of this happy union, Robert (Bob) and Cheryl. Walter worked for a brief time at Great Lakes Paper Mill and then found his permanent niche at the Post Office where he worked as a postal clerk until his retirement at the age of 64.

Family was most important to our Dad. He enjoyed the many weekly family meals together. Sherianne and Kris spent many happy weekends with their grandparents. He was proud of his grandchildren. Dad always made his famous crepes. He also cooked a deadly roast.

He never admitted to all the ingredients he used to create this delicious roast. You only needed a fork, no knives at all. He just smiled and admitted to some spices and red wine.

When Dad retired he brought our Mom home from Westmount Hospital and devotedly looked after her until her death on January 5, 1990. He provided such loving care continually throughout this time. Many happy times together.

Lots of good memories. He was totally dedicated to her. Later he developed a good friendship with Julia Horde which resulted in their marriage on November 30, 1996.

Dad and Julia shared in many happy occasions celebrating family events. Predeceased by his mother, Louise, father, John Carl, brothers, Joe, Stanley and Gene, sisters, Marie and Emily, sister-in-laws, Helen Coskie, Dora Charry (Coskie), Helen Coskie (Toronto) his beloved Bernice and great nephew, John Rusak. He will be sadly missed by wife, Julia and her family, son, Robert Coskie, daughter, Cheryl DeLorenzi (Dominic), grandchildren, Sherianne DeLorenzi (Jenn), Kris Delorenzi (Erinn) and 5 great grandchildren, Caleigh & Jordan Walsh, Josiah, Kaelan and Nathan DeLorenzi as well as niece, Laurie Kovac, Carol Rusak (Peter), great niece, Amy Rusak and nephew, John Coskie.
