It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Mayo announce his passing on Friday, December 28, 2018. Walter was born on April 24, 1932 to Clarence and Winnifred Mayo, in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario.

Walter married Lina (McRoberts) May 5, 1956 and settled in Fort William, raising 6 children.
Walter worked at a young age on the family farm and lumber business then to driving truck and heavy equipment for most of his life ending up at Valley Camp Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was an avid gardener, outdoorsman and curler for many years and would help anyone who asked.

Walter is survived by sons John (Gail), Jim (Nancy), Jerald, Joseph and Jack; daughter Joan; sister Dorothy (George) Dakin; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Lina, sister Louise, brothers James and George.

Thanks to the many doctors, nurses and staff of TBRHSC and St. Joseph’s Hospice who cared for dad in his final days with us. Our family would like to extend a special thanks to all his friends and neighbors who’s caring and love was so appreciated.

As per Walter’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering and interment will be held at the O’Connor Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made, in Walter’s name, to St. Joseph’s Hospice or charity of choice.
