Wilfred Allan Buitenhuis

buitenhuis-original

His official name was Wilfred Allan but to his family, his friends and all who knew him he was simply Fred.

Fred was a special child. The youngest son of parents Roelof and Metje (Meta) he grew up on the family farm near Hymers and was happy to return to those familiar surroundings after any excursion. He relied on his daily routines to help him manage life, so farm life suited him. In his early years feeding calves, chickens and cats were his tasks but he also had a unique ability to recall, by name, which cow had done something while on pasture. In later years daily walks with his dog and observing the world from the front porch were his trademarks.

A lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church for nearly 40 years Fred was a member of the Friendship Group there enjoying weekly bible lessons, crafts and games as well as contributing to worship services when asked.

On the evening of March 4, after a sudden illness, he left us for his eternal home.

Fred is survived by his mother Metje, his aunt Margaret, his brothers Rudy (Aria) and Rick (Pam).

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Wendi (James), Jocelyn (Jesse), Ashley, Alex, Mike, Tim and Neil (Dianne) and grand nieces and nephews Caitlin, Hannah, Maria, Emily, Julia, Jamie, Nathan, Messiah, Ronan, Rydyr and Owen.

Predeceased by father Roelof, nephews Jason and Clinton.

Visitation will be on Monday March 11, 2024, 7 – 9 p.m. at First CRC Cooper Road, with service on Tuesday March 12, 2024, 1:30 p.m. at First CRC. The family will gather at Riverside Cemetery Hymers at 11 a.m., Tuesday for interment. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family expresses its thanks to the paramedics and staff in both the Emergency and Intensive Care units at the Regional for their diligent efforts to help Fred.
