Mr. William (Bill) Janik, age 69, of Thunder Bay, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on the evening of August 2, 2025. Born June 3rd, 1956 in Red Lake, ON. Bill was raised and educated in Thunder Bay and attended Oliver Rd. Public School, Hammarskjold High School and Confederation College. Bill was employed by Brinks Canada as a driver/ messenger. Bill retired in 2021 for one day and returned to work on a part-time basis until his passing, giving him 35 years of service. Bill's hobbies were varied from playing tennis in younger years to league bowling, darts and golf. Bill's true passion was his Ham radio and the friends and contacts he made through the club. VA3 BJJ has signed off for the last time.
Bill was very much loved and appreciated. Always ready to lend a helping hand to a friend or neighbour whenever he could.
Bill is survived by Barbara, his loving and devoted wife of 22 years. His stepdaughter Ashley (Brad) Winton of Toronto. His two grandchildren Emma and Coner, who called him papa. He was very proud of them and loved them dearly. Sisters Barbie Prieston of Calgary AB. Kim of Thunder Bay and brother Ken of Thunder Bay. Mother-in-law Elizabeth Johnson of Kapuskasing. Brothers- in-law William Johnson of Dobie, ON, Robert (Diane) of Kapuskasing and James (Natasha) of Kapuskasing. Also survived by several nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces, as well as extended family. Predeceased by his parent Joseph and Stephanie Janik, infant brother John. Father-in-law Charles William Johnson.
Cremation has taken place as per his request. A celebration of life will be held on September 4, 2025 from 2:30–4:30pm at the West Thunder Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Humane Society or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
