Plunkett, William new
Mr. William Wayne Plunkett, age 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep with family by his side on December 8, 2017. Born December 3, 1936 in Fort William, he was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. He attended Heath Park Public School, Fort William Collegiate Institute and the University of Western Ontario, where he earned his BA in 1959.

After graduation, he joined Dunwoody and Co. where he earned his Chartered Accountant designation and worked for over 40 years until his retirement in 1999. He was an active member of the Naval Officers Association of Canada, and also volunteered his time for the Thunder Bay Naval Heritage Fund and the Thunder Bay Military Historical Society.

Truly a jack-of-all-trades, and a master of many, over his lifetime his interests were wide and varied, from hunting and fishing, to sailing, celestial navigation and astronomy, painting, cooking and baking, wine-making and even roasting his own coffee.

He enjoyed his visits to Toronto to visit family, particularly his two young granddaughters, who he would pick up early from school and take for ice cream.  He is survived by his children Rebecca, David, Andrew (Tory) and granddaughters Maggie and Cait. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Becky (nee Fleming), sister Margaret Sibley, and parents Ben and May.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, followed by a private interment for the family at the Cloud Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay Naval Heritage Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
