William Galandzy
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of William Roy Galandzy at the age of 83. Roy passed away peacefully while holding his wife's hand and surrounded by family on the evening of August 20, 2018. Roy was born in Timmins, Ontario on February 27, 1935. He was raised and educated in Thunder Bay.

Here he met his childhood sweetheart, Anne (nee Rybar) and they were married on June 28, 1958. Roy and Anne celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June. During their life together, they raised six children but opened their home to many more. If Roy was anything, he was a family man.

Roy's working years were spent at Loblaws, London Life, and Union Carbide, from where he retired in 1993. If he wasn't creating something beautiful from wood in his workshop, repairing objects, trying a new recipe in the kitchen, mushroom picking, being in nature or bringing joy and compassion to people while volunteering, he would be fishing. Catch or no catch, he was always happy to be fishing. Other than being with his wife and family, it was on the water where he was in his glory.

Roy was very active in the Catholic faith. He was an active member of his church where he celebrated and shared his faith. In his younger years he was involved in Crusillo’s, the Catholic Charismatic Movement and the Diaconate Program. Roy also volunteered his time and talent to many organizations. Grandview Lodge and Meals on Wheels were special to him. He also supported the Underground Gym, Shelter House, and the Dew Drop In.

Roy was blessed with many great friends and he was thankful for them all. He especially enjoyed his Saturday night card gang.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife Anne, children Barbara (Xenn Scott, Erin), David (Maureen, Kelly, (Dean, Cassie, Tommy) Michael (Ashley)), Karen (Tony), Debra (Richard), Beverley (Robert,) and Suzanne (Randall, Calvin) Sisters Betty (Dale) Buckley and Jody Picklyk both in Nova Scotia. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Roy was predeceased by his son Michael at birth and Granddaughter Jill Galandzy. He is also predeceased by in-laws Joseph and Mary Rybar and Peter Picklyk.

As per Roy's wishes, cremation has taken place and internment will be at a later date. A funeral mass celebrating the life of Roy Galandzy will be held Tuesday August 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Church, 766 Sprague Street, Thunder Bay. A reception will follow immediately afterwards at the church.

Roy and Anne supported many charities. If friends desire, a donation in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Shelter House, The Underground Gym or the Dew Drop In would be appreciated.
