Bill was born in Zlobin, Croatia on September 8, 1927 to Ivan and Dragica Shubat. They immigrated to Canada in 1936, settling in Port Arthur. He married Amelia “Amy” Domineck on June 4, 1955 and together they raised their family. Bill had a 20 year career as an electrician at Provincial Paper Mill; then opting for a challenge, he changed his vocation in 1969 becoming a high school teacher at Lakeview HS. As a ‘student of life’ Bill had a keen interest in current events and history. Some of his many pastimes included prospecting, woodworking, assisting with electrical repairs, and completing his daily crossword puzzle.

He was an avid sportsman, playing volleyball into his eighties. Bill was a devoted caregiver with a strong social conscience; a community-minded person, who volunteered for many organizations including Meals on Wheels, 55 Plus Centre, and the Croatian Home Society. Bill was a life-long member of St. Andrew's RC Church and he actively participated in the church choir.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Amy; children and grandchildren Debbie (Greg Benson, son Nicholas); Valerie (Gary Silbernagel); Michael (Debbie, sons Brad and Matt); Robert (daughters Caliegh and Morgan); and Jim (Els Vanbeckevoort, children Rebecca, Daniel and Luka); sister Milly Peloza (John) and sister-in-law Jackie Domineck as well as numerous nephews and other relatives.
