Bill passed away peacefully with family by his side at Pinewood Court on February 17. He had recently moved to Pinewood Court and was very happy there. Prior to his move in January, he lived at Sister Lila Greco where his puzzle ladies took good care of him.
Bill was born on a snowy day, November 24, 1926 at the family home in Westfort, to Harry and Agnes Sinfield. As a boy he loved to golf with his uncles and continued to golf into his seventies. Bill also loved baseball. He was a crafty southpaw pitcher who relied on his guile and control of his off speed pitches to win his many games. As a St. Louis Browns rookie team found out at the inaugural game of the Port Arthur Stadium in July of 1951 when he beat them 3 to 2. Bill also loved hockey and he and his good friend Dick Stephens coached for the Elks Hockey league for many years. Former players would stop Bill and reminisce about their playing days.
Bill met the love of his life, Marjorie Stewart, in high school and they married in August of 1949. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Marge died in 2010. Bill was a family man and loved his three daughters, Sandra, Leslie and Susan. In the early days, his job with Traders Finance took him on the road from Monday to Friday, so weekends were spent with his girls, after Saturday morning golf. During the girls’ childhood years, Bill and Marge were very active with Willow Lodge and worked with other parents of children with cerebral palsy to plan fundraising events and organize clinics for visiting specialists.
Bill loved his grandchildren and together with Marge attended piano and band recitals, Christmas concerts, basketball and ringette games and many graduations. He was very proud of all their accomplishments.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Sandra Jarvis, Leslie Sutherland (Bill), Susan Wicklund (Kevin), Langley, BC; grandchildren, Jeff (Sherri) Jarvis, Matt Jarvis, Lindsay Exley (Adam), Heather Sutherland; and great grandson, Jakob Jarvis. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Sinfield and wife Virginia and by his uncle, Alf (Sam) Sinclair in BC. Nieces and cousins also survive.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, his parents, Agnes and Harry Sinfield, and by his in-laws, William and Ellen Stewart.
As per his wishes, Bill has been cremated and there will be a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the George Jeffrey Foundation or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
The family would like to thank the puzzle ladies at Sister Lila Greco for the nurturing friendship they shared with dad, the staff and management of Sister Lila Greco for their care of dad, the friendly staff at Rollason’s Flowers who always knew just what Dad wanted and for delivering him and his flowers home safely, the staff at Pinewood Court for their care and compassion, especially during Dad’s last few days, Dr. David Janhunen for keeping us informed and ensuring Dad was comfortable and Dr. Jim Stamler for all his years of care.
