Winnifred Ruth Lacey

The family of Ruth Lacey are sad to announce her passing on June 25, 2022 at TBRHSC, with her family at her side.

Born May 13, 1946 to Winnifred (Wiltshire) and Lloyd McNaughton in Fort William, Ontario, Ruth was the oldest of three children. Ruth was a tenacious child who grew into a strong-headed, passionate woman, who loved nothing more than her family.

She married the love of her life, Danny on August 3rd, 1968 after meeting in high school. Ruth & Danny had two daughters, Donna Louise & Sherri-Lynn, who were the light in her eyes. After being a stay at home Mom, Ruth returned to work in various positions, ending her career in retail working for Dieter’s Flooring and Zegil’s Floormart, where she met many people she called friends.

Ruth loved life and lit up every room she was in with her smile and loud personality. She was affectionately known to many as a second Mom, Aunt and confidante. She could always be relied on to lift you up, or help you out, without any judgement. But she was always perfect on telling you how it was. Her honesty was part of what made her who she was. Other than her family, Ruth had a love for music, especially her Elvis Presley and good rock and roll. She spent many an evening in the local bingo halls perfecting the art of playing more cards than people could fathom. While not always lucky in bringing home winnings, she did make many lifelong friends along the way.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Winnifred & Llyod and other members of both the McNaughton and Wiltshire families.

Left to forever love her are her best friend and husband of 53 years, Danny, her daughters Donna Lacey(Travis) & her children Matthew (Daniela), Gavin, Brayden & great-granddaughter Braelynn, and Sherri-Lynn Barron and her husband Allen. Sister Lois (Don) Mayhew & their children John, Mary and Anne and families. Brother David (Nancy) McNaughton & their children Scott, Christopher and Sarah and families. She also survived by one Aunt, Mrs. Bernice Robinson and her family. She will also be remembered by members of the Lacey family - Eleanor (Richard) & families, Lorne (Willy) & families, and Maureen (Bill) & families. Numerous other family members also remain.

The family would like to extend many thanks to special neighbours Sean & Tammy Bolton and their children Jayden and Gracie for all their kindness and care extended to both Ruth and Danny. You held a special place in Mom's heart and she loved you all like family. We would also like to thank first responders from Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue and Superior North EMS for your care and compassion at such a difficult time. Also, to all of the staff at Bayshore Home Health, thank you to her PSW's and Nurses for the kind care that you provided to Mom over the last couple of years. We appreciate all of you.

The family would like to invite people to join in a Celebration of Life for Ruth on July 9th, 2022 from 1 - 3 pm, at The Army Navy Airforce Veterans Club at 610 Simpson Street (side entrance - downstairs), Thunder Bay. The bar will be open and light food will be provided. Please come share with us your favorite stories and memories of an incredible woman.

Donations to your charity of choice in memory of Ruth would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

We love you. We miss you. - Danny, Donna and Sherri-Lynn.
