It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yvonne Fummerton (nee Chabot) on May 11, 2024 born to John and Olga Chabot on June 7th, 1952 in Fort William.

Yvonne grew up in the East End and attended Ogden School and later attended Selkirk High School and later Confederation College where she studied Law and Security. It was at Selkirk where she met her future husband Jim and they later married in 1973 and had daughter Kerri-Lynn in 1977.

In her working career she started out at Five Star Bakery, and then she moved on to Eaton’s in security and then on to Bourkes and after Bourkes she started her career in banking at Scotiabank in 1986 when Jim was transferred to Saskatoon Yvonne continued her banking career with BMO in the Auto Finance department. In 1996 another move brought the family Edmonton where Yvonne became Audit Manager for the Auto Finance department where she covered the area from Thunder Bay to British Columbia and a portion of the Northern US until her retirement in 2011 after 25 years with BMO.  After Yvonne and Jim both retired they enjoyed traveling home and abroad.

Family, friends, and community were most important to Yvonne.

Upon retirement she volunteered at her church and volunteered at St. Joe’s Auxiliary hospital in Edmonton where she worked with the seniors and worked part time at Connolly and Mc Kinley as a reception hostess and as a funeral arranger at her church.

Back home in Thunder Bay she took an active role in her community of Kaministiquia as chair of the Local Service Board, as well as helping family and friends when needed. Yvonne’s other interests included the Northern Ontario Classic Car Club and current events.  Yvonne’s happy place was her sister’s camp on Lake Superior where she would sit at the picnic atop the cliff overlooking Lake Superior. I am pleased to say she spent the better part of two summers there.

Predeceased by her parents John and Olga Chabot, husband James, and sister Charlotte.  Yvonne will be missed by her loving daughter Kerri-Lynn, sister-in-law Sharon Lindquist and husband Russ, her niece Lauren (Brian) and her nephew Cody and her great nephew Oliver and her brother-in-law Bill Zeleny and her nephews Rob, Jeff (Jenn), and Mark and her dogs Miss Boomer and Sammy

We would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses Lakehead Regional Intensive care and neurological unit for their exemplary care and compassion and a special thank you to the Good Samaritans that assisted Yvonne in Kenora along with the doctors and nurses at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. A funeral service will be held at the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street S., on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, at 10:30 am with interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund or the St. Anthony’s Church Catholic Women’s League would be appreciated.
