A coroner's inquest will examine the death of a man killed by two Toronto police officers two years ago.

Kwasi Skene-Peters, 21, was shot during an early-morning firefight with officers on July 25, 2015.

He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

A statement from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services says recommendations from the inquest may be used to prevent similar deaths.

Skene-Peters had been wanted by the Toronto police on first-degree murder charges for the alleged killings of two men earlier that year.

The Special Investigations Unit later cleared the two officers responsible, calling it a "legally justified" shooting.
