COBOURG, Ont. — Josh Maguire scored his second goal of the game 3:54 into overtime as the host Cobourg Cougars downed the Trenton Golden Hawks 3-2 on Saturday in round-robin play at the 2017 RBC Cup.
Matt Carroll also scored as the Cougars (1-0-0) opened Canada's national junior "A" championship with a victory.
Stefano Durante made 25 saves to earn the win.
Chris Janzen gave the Golden Hawks (0-1-0) a chance, kicking out 36-of-39 shots in defeat. Jeremy Pullara and Anthony Sorrentino supplied the offence.
Earlier in the day, Nick Prkusic had a pair of goals as the Brooks Bandits opened the five-team tournament with a 6-3 victory over the Terrebonne Cobras.
Arnaud Vachon, Cale Makar, Parker Foo and Conner Jean also found the back of the net for the Bandits (1-0-0), who got a 27-save outing from Mitch Benson.
William Gignac, Loik Leveille and Eric Leger scored for the Cobras (0-1-0). Jeremy Belisle stopped 33-of-39 shots in a losing cause.
Round-robin play continues on Sunday, with the Penticton Vees hitting the ice for their tournament opener against the Bandits.
