Miami film community cancels TIFF party because of hurricane Irma

TORONTO — A Toronto International Film Festival party intended to salute Miami's film community has been cancelled out of respect for Florida residents likely to be affected by hurricane Irma.

TORONTO — A Toronto International Film Festival party intended to salute Miami's film community has been cancelled out of respect for Florida residents likely to be affected by hurricane Irma.

A joint statement issued by Miami's tourism bureau, Film Florida and Miami Dade College's Miami Film Festival says they've decided to forgo the event originally slated for Saturday night at Toronto's Soho House.

The group says the decision was made over recognition the party would take place during the "exact hours" when the hurricane is expected to directly hit Miami.
