Minerva leads Cougars to RBC Cup title as Cobourg beats Brooks Bandits 3-2 in OT

COBOURG, Ont. — Nick Minerva scored in overtime as the Cobourg Cougars edged the Brooks Bandits 3-2 on Sunday to win the RBC Cup, Canada's junior A men's hockey championship. It is Cobourg's first ever junior A title.

COBOURG, Ont. — Nick Minerva scored in overtime as the Cobourg Cougars edged the Brooks Bandits 3-2 on Sunday to win the RBC Cup, Canada's junior A men's hockey championship.

It is Cobourg's first ever junior A title.

Ryan Casselman tied the game 2-2 with 1:07 left to play in the third to force overtime for Cobourg, the tournament's host. Jamie Huber had opened scoring for the Cougars early in the first and Stefano Durante made 41 saves for the win.

Conner Jean and Nick Prkusic replied for Brooks, while Mitch Benson stopped 20 shots in net.

Cobourg didn't score on its three power plays and the Bandits were 1 for 5 with the man advantage.
