Montreal police made an arrest early Tuesday in a stabbing on Mount Royal that left a man in critical condition.

The 56-year-old victim underwent surgery following the attack on Monday night, which occurred while he was out for a walk with his son, 31.

Const. Benoit Boisselle said the victim was blinded by a flashlight before being stabbed in the stomach with a sharp object, but his son was unharmed.

After closing off Mount Royal for the night, they found a suspect on Tuesday just a few hundred metres from where the attack occurred on the mountain.

The suspect, a 47-year-old man, was expected to be questioned by investigators during the day.

Boisselle said the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
