CALGARY — A three-week jury trial for a man accused of killing a Calgary woman and her five-year-old daughter is scheduled to begin in November 2018.

Edward Downey is pleading not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Sara Baillie and her daughter Taliyah Marsman last summer.

The Crown is also expecting a two-week hearing before the Nov. 26, 2018 trial to go over evidentiary matters without a jury.

Baillie, who was 34, was found dead in her northwest Calgary home on July 11, but Taliyah was missing and an Amber Alert was issued.

The girl's body was found days later in a rural area east of the city.

Downey, who is 47, has been in custody since his arrest, but he was not in court on Friday.
