OHL Roundup: Merkley's overtime goal powers Storm past Frontenacs 4-3

GUELPH, Ont. — Ryan Merkley scored his second goal of the night in overtime to lift the Guelph Storm over the Kingston Frontenacs 4-3 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Luke Burghardt had a power-play goal and Garrett McFadden scored at even strength in regulation time for Guelph (11-17-3). Liam Herbst made 34 saves for the win.

Stephen Desrocher's goal for Kingston (13-13-4) with 2:22 left in the third period forced extra time. Warren Foegele and Jason Robertson also scored for the Frontenacs, while Jeremy Helvig stopped 26 shots in net.

The Storm went 1 for 2 on the power play and Kingston only scored once on nine man advantages.

ATTACK 6 COLTS 1

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Jonah Gadjovich struck twice, including the eventual winner, as the Attack routed Barrie.

Matt Schmalz, Petrus Palmu, Kevin Hancock and Aidan Dudas rounded out the attack as Owen Sound (19-13-1) won its third straight game.

Lucas Chiodo replied for the Colts (9-18-4).

OTTAWA — Zach Gallant had back-to-back goals, including the eventual winner, to power Peterborough past the 67's.

Tyler Rollo had a short-handed goal for the Petes (15-11-4), Steven Lorentz and Matthew Timms added power-play goals and Josh Coyle chipped in as well. Peterborough has won five in a row.

Tye Felhaber and Sam Bitten responded for Ottawa (13-15-4).

SPITFIRES 3 BATTALION 0

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Michael DiPietro stopped all 21 shots he faced as Windsor blanked the Battalion.

Mikhail Sergachev, Luke Boka and Jeremiah Addison each scored in a different period as the Spitfires (21-5-4) earned their fifth consecutive win.

Julian Sime turned aside 21-of-23 shots for North Bay (15-14-2).

GREYHOUNDS 7 BULLDOGS 2

HAMILTON — Jack Kopacka scored four times to lead Sault Ste. Marie past the Bulldogs.

Bobby MacIntyre had the eventual winner in the first period for the Greyhounds (22-8-1), while Colton White and Tim Gettinger added goals of their own.

Justin Lemcke had back-to-back power-play goals for Hamilton (13-12-5) in the second period.

KNIGHTS 6 RANGERS 2

LONDON, Ont. — Josh Nelson had a pair of goals as the Knights downed Kitchener.

Brandon Crawley, Alex Formenton and JJ Piccinich all had power-play goals for London (21-4-5). Olli Juolevi scored at even strength.

Nick McHugh scored on a penalty shot for the Rangers (18-10-2) and Adam Mascherin found the back of the net as well.

OSHAWA, Ont. — Hayden Hodgson had four goals as Saginaw upset the Generals.

Kris Bennett and Filip Hronek also scored for the Spirit (12-13-5), who extended their point streak to seven games, including five wins.

Mitchell Vande Sompel, Serron Noel and Medric Mercier supplied the offence for Oshawa (19-9-2).
