TECUMSEH, Ont. — Provincial police say a child is in critical condition after being found floating in a swimming pool in Tecumseh, Ont.

They say officers responded to the call Tuesday night, and the two-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital.

He was later transferred to the Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, where he remained late Wednesday.

Police had reported Wednesday afternoon that the boy had died in hospital, but they issued a correction later in the evening.

The later statement read that another boy had been taken to the Detroit hospital under similar circumstances, and their statuses were misinterpreted.

Police say the Tecumseh family is asking for privacy.
