The Thunder Bay & District Humane Society's third annual Tails and Trails Walk is a great way to get active, support your local shelter, and meet other animal lovers in the community.

The walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a location to be determined. Participants can walk with their dogs, or without.

"Last year was our first ‘in-person’ walk which raised $4,825.00. The year prior we held a virtual event due to COVID-19 and that raised $9,075.00. As a non-profit, these funds are vital in helping our shelter care for the hundreds of dogs that come into our care each year.” said Stephanie Folino, Community Engagement Coordinator at TBDHS.

All funds raised from the event will go towards providing care for the animals at the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society. This includes food, shelter, medical care, and more.

The impact from the donations are wide-ranging:

  • $50 can cover vaccination and deworming for 1 dog
  • $100 can provide 160 bowls of dog food
  • $250 can cover spay/neuter surgery for 1 dog
  • $500 can go towards supplies and pre/postnatal care for a mom and pups
  • $1000 can go towards medical care for sick and injured dog(s)

In addition to the walk, there will also be a costume contest and prizes awarded for best costume and highest fundraiser.

Register for the walk today at www.tbdhs.ca/walk. You can donate online, in person at the event or at the TBDHS.

“Donors can also donate in person at our shelter at 1535 Rosslyn Road. We also have in-person packages for participants to collect donations as well if they are not familiar with raising online funds,” Folino said.

Folino also emphasizes that anyone can participate.

“You do not have to be present for the scheduled walk if you’d still like to fundraise,” Folino said. “Bring your pup or come with a friend and walk in honour of the animals still in need of their forever homes.”

To prepare for your Tails and Trails walk be sure to choose the right shoes, bring water for yourself and your dog. If you are walking with your dog, be sure to bring a bag for waste.

The Tails and Trails walk is a fun-filled event for the whole family. Be sure to relax, enjoy yourself, and support the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society.
