THUNDER BAY — The Coalition for Waverley Park has announced its first concert in the returning free weekly Monday night Summer Concert Series, happening on Monday night.
“Part of it is just inclusion,” said the group's president, David George Noonan.
The first concert, on Monday, features Mood Indigo Jazz at 6:30p.m., and John Scaffeo and Friends Country Gospel at 7:30 p.m.
“It’s something that's great for the whole family. You can just bring your own picnic. It's not about purchasing anything, but just having people get together.
“We want to make sure that the park is well used and programmed, and we want to make sure that it's seen by everyone and used by everyone in different ways.”
The series is a free music concert hosted by the park group in partnership with the City of Thunder Bay.
“The series has a good mix of music again this year. We're working with the Thunder Bay Musicians Association local 591, and they've put together another great lineup for the whole season,” Noonan said.
The concert series is held at the bandstand in Waverley Park, weather permitting, every Monday evening starting at 6:30 p.m. until August 25.
“This is the coalition for Waverley Park's 30th year in existence.
“We're also going to have a nice dedication tonight to some of our founding members, two in particular who are still on our board, they've been with us for 30 consecutive years. We have a bench that we've dedicated to them and that will be unveiled tonight at the at the concert,” he said.
