Bad news in television

Though it may come as a shock, I love television. Despite my periodic complaints and commentary on the industry, I genuinely love the boob tube. Especially when I turn it on. But sometimes, it would seem to have been better to leave it off.

Though it may come as a shock, I love television. Despite my periodic complaints and commentary on the industry, I genuinely love the boob tube.  Especially when I turn it on.

But sometimes, it would seem to have been better to leave it off.

This past week seemed to be full of those times.

This past week, I found myself looking into the box, having way more of my “Are you freakin’ kidding me?” moments than usual.

Rob Thomas, creator of teen private eye drama, Veronica Mars, wants to make a movie about the same.

Using the U.S.-based fundraising site, Kickstarter, he managed to collect $2.2 million in 24 hours from rabid, I mean avid, fans.

I have to wonder:  How is it that people are struggling and families are relying on food banks but fans can raise $2.2 million in a day for a movie about a show that was only on the air for three years?

And the magic of the series was that Veronica was a regular teen who solved mysteries.

The star, Kristen Bell, is now 32 years old and ready to deliver her first child. I’ll go out on a limb and say that the teen spirit is gone.

Besides, does Bell really want to be on a movie set next to some guy (we’ll just call him “creepy stalker dude”) who paid $10,000 to be with the TV star he panted over as a pimply and hormonal adolescent?

On another note, American Idol’s Nicki Minaj threatened to quit Thursday night when one singer was sent packing.

Her argument? He was the best performer of the evening. The problem? She wasn’t even there to hear him sing. She arrived late to the show.

Meanwhile, in a jacket that closed at her navel and nothing else, Minaj was flashing her inner boob, under-boob, and generally too much boob.

Put it away. It’s a family show.

Speaking of tantrums, Survivor: Caramoan featured a meltdown of epic proportions that left viewers uncomfortable and genuinely concerned for 21-year old Brandon.

The online consensus seems to be that producers should never have allowed the emotionally unstable kid to play.

However, Brandon is now claiming he’s quite proud of how he handled himself and looks forward to playing again someday.

Sure you did, Brandon. Now don’t mind us while we slowly and calmly back away.

And The X-Factor is being turned into a musical. Funny, I thought it already was.

The TV show that had lackluster ratings in the U.S. is being made into musical theatre in London by Psycho, I mean, Syco Entertainment.

I’d rather watch reruns of MTV’s Making the Band.

And then, just when I thought there was no hope left in TV Land, I got the BEST…NEWS…EVER!

ABC’s moral wasteland, Bachelor Pad, will NOT be returning this summer.

Better than Christmas!
