Northwest Narwhals make a splash at Massaro Construction Ltd Invitational

The yellow cap swimmers obtained a total of 155 medals.

THUNDER BAY -- With over 150 swimmers and 7 swimming clubs from the Northern Ontario region, a bunch of yellow caps from the Narwhals hit the wall first this past weekend Dec. 1 and 2 at Lakehead University pool in their first short course of the year, the Northwest Narwhals’ Massaro Construction Ltd. Invitational.

NWN’s had an outstanding weekend with 90 per cent personal bests for the entire club, second overall in team scores and best-performing team based in points per swimmer. Besides these extraordinary results, 20 club records and 13 meet records were conquered.

The yellow cap swimmers obtained a total of 155 medals: 67 gold, 47 silver and 41 bronze. Swimmers with all medals in their individual swims named by alphabetical order:

Diego Barcena-Martinez: six gold, three silver; Katelyn Battigelli: one gold, six silver and two bronze; Nicholas Battigelli: two gold, two silver and three bronze; Elly Bodnar: four gold, four silver, one bronze; Justin Felix: five gold, one silver; Maddox Holmes: four gold, four silver, one bronze; Kaitlyn Luu: nine gold; Matthew Waddington: seven gold and two silver

Multi-medalist for the club were: Ana Lucia Barcena-Martinez: three gold, two silver and two bronze, Carson Cambly: five silver and two bronze, Tristan Cornwell: one silver and two bronze, Emma Cournoyer: one gold, three silver and one bronze, Helen Crowe: one gold, one silver and three bronze, Liam Francis: one gold, one silver and six bronze, Mikayla Lambert: Addison Lutz: four gold, one silver and three bronze, Keira Meakin: one gold and three bronze, Tori Niittynen-Dreifelds: three gold, three silver and one bronze, Samuel Sandoval: five gold, one silver and two bronze, Danica Theriault: one silver and two bronze, Paige Venasky: two bronze, Sophie Venasky: three gold, three silver and one bronze

Single medalist for the NWN’s: Paige Brown: one bronze, David Iwanyszyn: one bronze, Katherine Warkentin: one bronze and swimming for the first time and with all personal bests were Mikayla Lambert and Eduardo Sandoval.

Next to the club Northwestern Ontario Long Course Champs in Thunder Bay from Feb. 1 to 3.
