I am nominating Mrs. Sandie Hastie-Black for the 2018 Holiday Heroes award.

Sandie has been the (volunteer) chief of the St. John Ambulance Medical First Response Unit for two years and has represented herself, our Unit and our entire organization with grace, dignity, professionalism and courage.

As a volunteer she not only demonstrates the ability to lead a team on a daily basis but will step up to ensure that our various Medical First Response duties are covered which ensures that our community members are safe.

Sandie was an active member at our 24-hour Feathers of Hope Duty as well as ensuring that our medical coverage for the CLE was sufficiently staffed at all times.

Although she might not think we see it, we know that she puts in hundreds of extra hours to ensure that her unit is operating smoothly.S

andie continues to mentor new members through our organization, often donating her time as an instructor to ensure that proper training is completed.

She shines as a mentor with our experienced volunteers in that she makes sure that they are properly promoted through the ranks, often giving them valuable life experience and relevant training to further their career path in the medical sciences field.

I can honestly say that with Sandie Hastie-Black as the leader of our Medical First Response Unit our community is in much safer hands.
