Nomination:
I am nominating Sam Kannegiesser who runs Adopt a Mutt rescue.
She started the rescue in 2014 and has helped over 400 dogs find their “furever” homes.
She never lets any challenge pass her by. She has helped dogs with serious medical issues, starving pregnant mother dogs and has become an expert tube feeding pups who either fail to thrive or are born with cleft palates. The most famous of course is Feisty!
Lately she has taken in dogs with broken legs and opens her home and her heart to provide senior or palliative dogs with a final loving home.
She works hard for donations but if there is anything the rescue or a dog needs she will not hesitate to use her own funds.
Samantha takes great care to ensure her dogs are set up to succeed by completing all vetting including spay/neuter, training and if needed behavior training. Sam is a true hero!

I would like to nominate Sam Kannegiesser of Adopt a Mutt Rescue in Thunder Bay as a Holiday Hero. I adopted my dog from Sam, and avidly follow her rescue through social media.
Sam runs the gold standard of "responsible rescue" with Adopt A Mutt. All dogs that come through her rescue are thoroughly vetted and she never adopts a dog out that has not been spayed or neutered. If for any reason at all one of her dogs that was adopted out cannot be properly cared for anymore, she will accept them back into rescue, no matter how much else she has on her plate at that time.
Sam takes her time to get to know a dog's personality before they are placed up for adoption, to ensure that they are a perfect fit with their prospective families. She enriches any newborn puppies she has into "puppy culture", increasing the likelihood of them growing into well-rounded dogs.
I never fail to be amazed by Sam's dedication to her rescue, accompanied by the help of amazing foster volunteers and donations. She never turns down a dog in need, and takes on difficult and unique cases often, such as cleft lip and cleft palate puppies.
She truly is the definition of selfless, and often puts the needs of animals before her own.
