THUNDER BAY – A popular Mexican restaurant is closing its doors after nine years in business.
The owners of Thunder Bay’s El Tres made the announcement on Facebook, citing expansion plans by the owner of the Red River Road building that’s housed the eatery since 2016.
“Our landlord is expanding his business into our space, and unfortunately, it is not economically feasible for us to relocate into a new location,” reads a portion of the post.
The restaurant was inspired by a visit to southern California by chef Allan Rebelo, who developed a love for Mexican cuisine under the tutelage of renowned chef Javier Plascencia.
In 2021 the owners expanded into Goods & Co., opening Poco Mas, which operated until 2025.
They expressed a heartfelt thanks to the community for its support over the years.
“Your loyalty has been the backbone of our success,” the owners said, also thanking their suppliers and business partners.
Gift certificates will be accepted until the closure, which is scheduled for the end of August.
