Let's Eat: Spring tea fundraiser for the Northern Cancer Fund

The event will take place at the Italian Cultural Centre on Sunday afternoon

The Ladies of The Italian Society of Port Arthur are back for the annual Spring Tea Fundraiser for The Northern Cancer Fund on April 23 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Centre.

Since the first recorded gathering of the Italian Society of Port Arthur in 1929, the Ladies have been organizing events, fundraisers and more for the community.

The gatherings began as a way for newcomers to socialize and give back to their neighbourhood. As membership grew over the years, the informal activities moved to the Italian Hall, now the Italian Cultural Centre.

In 2019 they opened the Galileo Room to accommodate all the guests. Typically around 400 to 500 people attend throughout the day. Volunteers have been working weeks in advance to prepare for the guests.

The Ladies of The Italian Society of Port Arthur will be busy making their signature desserts and fancy sandwiches for the event. Home-made cannoli and crostoli are being sold at the bake table. The crostoli typically sells out first no matter how much they make.

There will also be a penny auction, special raffle draws and door prize.

The community is excited for the revival of this locally loved and cozy spring fundraiser. It’s a welcome sign that summer is just around the corner.

Be sure to visit the Ladies on April 23 and meet your neighbours, eat some classic Italian pastry and support a great cause.

Tickets are available at the door or by phoning Michele at 344-6893 e-mail:  love.michele1946@gmail.com
