To Premier Kathleen Wynne,
You recently said, "as I continue to lead this province to make the important investments in infrastructure and transportation, I look forward to interacting with the media every step of the way.”
Could you please do that here by addressing your constituency regarding the nearly 700-page petition that was delivered to you on June 15? More than 28,100 signers have requested that you freeze the public asset that is the land on Lake Shebandowan.
An overwhelming number of Ontarians have made it abundantly clear that they do not want the land on which Wilderness Discovery Resort for the Disabled is built to be sold, but designated as protected for the disability community.
This situation has been dragging on for far too long and casts you and the representing MPPs in an uncaring light to the needs of the handicapped and as dismissive to so many voices of your citizenry. We call on you to take this small parcel of land out of consideration for sale.
The people of Ontario already own the parcel of land that Wilderness Discovery is built upon. It is unfair to force them to repurchase it. They have petitioned you, Bill Mauro, and Michael Gravelle to make the property a designated area for disability use on a permanent basis.
You should be bound to comply with the wishes of the people you were elected to represent. The benefits that are provided to disabled children, seniors, military veterans, and all of their families, far outweigh the mere 866 thousand dollar asking price.
The deadline is fast approaching. Please issue a press release to the media across the province you lead, that you will do the humane thing immediately and save Wilderness Discovery Resort For The Disabled without further obstruction or delay. We need this land for Ontarians with wheelchairs, NOT millionaires. Please stand up for those who cannot stand themselves.
Thank you.
Kevin Johnson
