It is disturbing to think half of the council wants to download more of the tax burden onto single residential homeowners. This is what happened about a week ago when council voted on this motion and the result was a tie vote, as one member of council was missing.
Instead of administration dealing with the cause of high taxes in Thunder Bay, which include high spending and staffing levels, the administration just wants to shuffle things around and leave many homeowners in a very vulnerable position, telling residential homeowners they will have to pay more of the tax burden will leave many taxpayers with less disposable income.
Council is to vote again Monday when all members of council are expected to be in attendance including Shelby Chung who was absent at last week's council meeting. Concerned homeowners need to contact all members of council and voice their concerns.
The councillors who voted to have residential homeowners pick up more of the tax burden included Mayor Ken Boshcoff, Brian Hamilton, Greg Johnsen, Dominic Pasqualino, Kristen Oliver and Albert Aiello.
Thanks to Trevor Giertuga and the other five councillors who supported his motion to leave the status quo the same stating residential taxpayers are already dealing with large tax bills. The councillors who supported Giertuga's motion were Andrew Foulds, Mark Bentz, Kasey Etreni, Michael Zussino and Rajni Agarwal.
