To the editor:

We are a not-for-profit organization that provides shelter, food and veterinary care to cats and dogs and other small animals as well as farm animals that are abused, neglected, abandoned or unwanted and assist police with animal related issues.

As a volunteer on the board it is very frustrating to see so many very compassionate boards of directors and other volunteers struggling with limited funds to help animals that can’t help themselves.

A few directors are constantly donating major funds to keep the Humane Society afloat and also have adopted many cats and dogs.

We have recently added six new board members with varied levels of experience that will be of great assistance.

The Humane Society receives no funding from any level of government and our fundraising events, coin box revenues, donations and bequests are at a very low level and jeopardizes the continued operation of the Humane Society.

The Humane Society is very successful in finding homes for the animals.

We hope to continue this service but we need your help.

Lawrence Timko,
Director of Thunder Bay and District Humane Society
