The Christmas season is upon us once again, and there are plenty of organizations out there that could use a little help.
In addition to the United Way, two holiday charities are especially near and dear to our hearts at this special time of year.
Christmas Cheer has been providing hampers of food to needy families for decades. They’ll officially kick off their campaign next weekend, and each year, as demand grows, their ability to fill hampers for all those in need becomes harder and harder.
Hand-in-hand is the annual Toys for Tots campaign, a tradition that goes back more than five decades.
Every child deserves to have a little joy at Christmas, and the firefighters and other volunteers who make Toys for Tots a success each year deserve a high-five from all of us.
What they could really use is a little of your money.
If everyone in the city could find it in their hearts to give just $2 each to these worthy causes, no one would have to go hungry and every child would enjoy a merry Christmas.
Toys for Tots has a booth set up in the food court at Intercity Shopping Centre, making it easy for holiday shoppers to take a few minutes to make a donation. Christmas Cheer contributions can be made at the CLE and various other locations around the city.
