When is the stupidity going to end?
Last weekend it was out in full force, when police announced someone had strung fishing line across bike and walk paths at Boulevard Lake.
This is a heavily used area, one of the busiest in the city.
Add in the much delayed arrival of spring, and people were out in full force, walking their dogs, jogging, biking or just shaking off some of that winter rust.
The last thing they wanted to hear was someone was out deliberately trying to hurt them.
The suspect, a 22-year-old arrested Monday by police, says he was just trying to play a prank.
Well, in our dictionary, a prank is putting Saran wrap over the toilet seat or playing ring-and-run.
Running fishing line, at neck height no less, across a busy trail system is a deliberate attempt to injure.
Depending on how tight the line was strung, someone on a bike or running could have been seriously injured.?Police say it could have been fatal.
The man has been charged with mischief, which seems a little light for what could have happened.
He’s also been released on his own recognizance. Maybe a few days in prison, if this really was just a “harmless” prank, might have scared him straight and ensured this type of behaviour was put in his past for good.
