The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team can hold their heads high.
Yeah, they got crushed by Carleton in the CIS Final 8 championship game. But guess what? The other seven teams in the tournament likely could put an all-star team together and still come up short against a Ravens squad that probably belongs in the NCAA.
Joseph Jones took a chance coming to Thunder?Bay from Washington, D.C. Greg Carter, Yoosrie Salhia, Ben Johnson and Brendan King also had tough choices to make.
Matt Schmidt, the local boy, had an easier decision to make, staying in Thunder?Bay.
All six can hold their heads high as their university basketball careers come to an end.
They did themselves and Thunder?Bay proud with what they accomplished this weekend and over the course of the past five years. They took a program that was floundering, buying into the system coach Scott Morrison was selling.
They’ve made nationals four years running, and turned the Thunderwolves from cellar dwellers into perennial contenders. They’ve laid the foundation and created a legacy that one day will see them feted on the athletics department’s wall of fame.
Thanks for the memories.
