Tragedy struck the streets of Thunder?Bay over the long weekend.
Sixty-seven-year-old Martin John Amos was struck and killed late Sunday night, allegedly by a driver of a stolen vehicle.
Our hearts go out to his family and friends, who did not deserve to have thier loved one taken from them in such a cruel and unexpected fashion.
A 20-year-old, Shane Lawrence Kolody, was taken into custody, after police arrested him fleeing the scene of the accident on foot.
Not knowing the reasons why the suspect was riding around the city in an allegedly stolen truck, it’s hard to fathom his reasoning.
At least it appears Thunder Bay Police took the proper course of action in their pursuit of Kolody.
A witness after the fact told Dougall Media reporters police were not involved in a high-speed chase and acted with the safety of everyone in mind.
Unfortunately the suspect appears to have put his own freedom ahead of that of Mr. Amos or anyone else who might have been on the streets on Sunday night.
Kolody is facing several charges, including criminal negligence causing death and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Amos’s friends and family in their time of grieving.
