Editorial: Show some stadium love

Port Arthur Stadium is Canada’s favourite ballpark. A Baseball Canada-run contest is just meant to find out whether the rest of Canada understands that.

A Baseball Canada-run contest is just meant to find out whether the rest of Canada understands that.

Baseball Canada recently announced that Port Arthur Stadium has made the semifinals in the organization’s online contest that aims to find Canada’s most beloved amateur baseball park.
From now until Aug. 15, the local park will be in a head-to-head online showdown with another semifinalist – Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, Alta.

A lot of history has been made at Port Arthur Stadium over the years.

Former MLB stars have stepped into the stadium’s batter’s box when the Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks was the city’s main ball club.

The field played host to many future and current major league players thanks to the Border Cats.

Port Arthur Stadium stood on the international stage when it hosted a well-attended and hugely successful 2010 World Junior Baseball Championships.

Those are only some examples of the park’s greatness.

The only way to truly understand why this park deserves to be named Canada’s favourite is by going to Port Arthur Stadium to watch new history being written.
