Editorial: Vote must be coming

Yes, the provincial government has to continue doing its job. But it’s not hard to tell an election is coming.
Yes, the provincial government has to continue doing its job.

But it’s not hard to tell an election is coming. The pre-October funding announcements are ramping up, as the Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals scramble to convince voters to give them another chance at Queen’s Park. The province’s wood allocation process, which is great for the local forest industry, is also a convenient way for our local MPPs to try to get face time in the media spotlight.

Week after week another “exciting” piecemeal announcement is made, gathering together a couple of recipients who are essentially being used as pawns in a political chess match.

Last week it was a million dollars more for Confederation College’s heralded REACH facility.

This week Ottawa-area MPP Glenn Murray showed up to take credit for the arrival of XLV Diagnostics.

Yes, the government played a pivotal role in bringing the cash to Thunder Bay that made the?Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute possible.

But we in the media aren’t fond of endless unpaid political advertisements, re-announcements or living in the past.

We’re also not fooled that easily, which is why Thunder Bay Source intends to skip most, if not all, of these “exciting” announcements between now and election day, in fairness to all candidates.
