Editorial: What will 2011 hold?

It’s hard to believe another year has flown by. It seems like yesterday we were ready to roll foward into a new decade and the promises it held for Thunder?Bay. Can 2011 top its predecessor for excitement? It’s hard to say.

It seems like yesterday we were ready to roll foward into a new decade and the promises it held for Thunder?Bay.

Can 2011 top its predecessor for excitement? It’s hard to say.

This past year we had a municipal election that swept a new mayor, Keith Hobbs, into power, the city got hit with a $126-million lawsuit by Horizon Wind Inc., the crime prevention committee got its start, the world junior baseball championship brought baseball fever to Thunder?Bay and not one, but two of our local hockey heroes - Hayley Irwin and Eric Staal - brought home Olympic gold.

Next year is certainly shaping up to be a dynamic one, with the federal Liberals all but promising to vote against the Conservative budget, forcing an election.

We know for certain the voters will go to the booth next fall to choose who will govern the province for the next four years.

Big changes could be coming on that front, if the polls are to be believed. But would a Liberal ousting reach as far as Northwestern Ontario?

City administration is promising to unveil the name of the waterfront hotelier in the new year, the lawsuit (should it go ahead), should be back on the top 10 list, and there’s always the uncertainty of the light-rail car deal that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has promised to quash. Should be a fun one.
