EDITORIAL: Wishes for 2013

As the Tragically Hip once sang (and hopefully will do so again on Jan. 29 at the Gardens), it’s the start of another new year.

As the Tragically Hip once sang (and hopefully will do so again on Jan. 29 at the Gardens), it’s the start of another new year.

The past one had its ups and downs, the low coming on May 28 with the onslaught of rain that ruined the lives of hundreds of our fellow citizens.

Here then, are some wishes for 2013 for the good folks of Thunder?Bay.

For the flood victims, a satisfying end to their year from hell and the money to ensure their homes and lives are repaired.

To MPP?Michael Gravelle, a clean bill of health from his doctors and a complete recovery from his cancer scare.

To city manager Tim Commisso, co-operation from federal (and provincial) officials and a commitment to help fund the $106.1-million event centre.

To the Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team, an end to all the in-house drama that has taken away from what the team is capable of doing on the ice; to their men’s basketball counterpart, redemption at nationals and a first-round win – assuming they can rebound from their slow start.

To fans of the Centennial Botanical Conservatory, an end to the structural problems that forced the closure of the facility for much of 2012.

And finally, to everyone else, a happy and prosperous 2013 for you and all your loved ones.
