Second chances are what life’s all about.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team got one Sunday night, and plan to make the most of it.

The Wolves, who lost the OUA semifinal to Ryerson, a stunning upset no one outside the Toronto campus saw coming, had to rely on the good graces of the CIS selection and seeding committee to earn a third straight trip to nationals.

Given the lone wild-card berth at the eight-team tournament, LU will be looking to improve on last year’s peformance, which saw them win the consolation side and a fifth-place finish.

To do so, the fourth-seeded Thunderwolves will have to win their opening game against another tough Western Canadian opponent, the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Caught by the 1-3-1 defence of Ryerson a week ago, Lakehead will have to make adjustments against Fraser Valley, a team that boasts size to Lakehead’s speed.

Coach Scott Morrison had his squad firing on all cylinders heading into the playoffs. Here’s hoping Friday’s 86-70 loss is little more than a blip in the game plan.

Games can be seen online at SSN?Canada.
