To the editor:
I think Thunder Bay should continue to build condos along the railway tracks and continue to build box stores with their backdoors and dumpsters along the beautiful waterway of the city.
It’s a great plan to keep the shoppers away from business and shopping areas. I believe this is what is referred to as tongue in cheek.
This city should have been building condos and/or apartments along the enjoyable waterways winding through Thunder Bay, all within walking distance to business areas and the golf course. There were, and are, several beautiful stretches of river that would have attracted people to buy and pay taxes to the city.
This type of environment might have even encouraged people to move to Thunder Bay to work and/or retire here.
I understand the designing of the various stages of the industrial park areas were designed back in the mid 1970s, but surely some of the forward thinkers on city council could have amended these plans to accommodate residential.
What made downtown cores like the Young Street of Toronto successful business areas? They brought the people to the business areas by building apartments and condos.
The difference between Toronto and Thunder Bay is Toronto only had Young Street but we have the rivers.
