To the editor:

In response to a previous article written, I would like to clarify some misconceptions about the St. John Ambulance Car Seat Safety and Inspection Program.

The Car Seat Safety Clinic that is held by St. John Ambulance is set in place to help educate parents on the proper installation of a car seat, and to allow the opportunity for the parents to install the seat themselves as Volunteer Technicians watch over and assist where needed.

At St. John Ambulance all Volunteer Technicians are certified through a two-day training course, and they ensure your car seat is safely and correctly installed before you leave the clinic.

If there is something they cannot install, such as an American manufactured car seat, or an expired car seat, they will educate the parents on the proper reasoning as to why it is unsafe to install and guide them in the best direction to ensure they get a new car seat.

I would also like to remind parents it is your responsibility to ensure your child’s car seat is properly and safely installed. St. John Ambulance has the Car Seat Safety and Inspection Program set in place to help educate the community about what to look for in car seats and how to properly install them. Volunteer Technicians are highly educated on the correct procedures as well as other important information in this regard.

Ensuring every ride is a safe ride, St. John Ambulance is there to help assist in your proper child car seat installation.
