To the editor:

I would just like to voice an opinion with regards to the quote by the police in the most recent statement made concerning car seat installation being the parents’ responsibility.

“Police would like to remind all drivers who transport children that the responsibility falls entirely upon them to ensure that the children are properly protected.” I do agree with this, but there is a car seat safety clinic offered through St. John’s Ambulance that is not always accessible because the car seat inspection is conducted by a volunteer.

I made a phone call to make arrangements to have my car seat installed properly, or so I thought that was what this service was for. I found out the service is only to check to see if you correctly installed the seat yourself.

I think emergency services or someone at the hospital should be trained to do this on a full-time basis because some parents out there are not quite sure how their children should be strapped in safely.
